Nasca Fish Vessel
A round vessel with a highly stylized fish painting from the Nazca culture.
About the Model
Nazca artists, near the southern coast of Peru, are known for their bold, colorful designs. While they did depict plants and animals around them, they were more concerned with capturing the spirit of the subject matter. Fish were a key component in the Nazca's diet and were often shown in their art. This fish is highly stylized. Its round, bulbous shape attests to the abundance of food at that time. Artist: Nazca; Medium: clay
