Armoured Galvonometer
Follow the quartz thread between the two coils. Zoom into this instrument made over a hundred years ago.
About the Model
Galvanometers have been essential for the development of science and technology in many fields, for example, they were were essential to discovering the electrical activity of the heart and brain. A galvanometer, an electromechanical instrument measuring electric current, works by moving a needle in response to an electric current flowing through a coil in a constant magnetic field. This galvanometer was made in 1907. Follow the quartz thread between the two coils. The current flowing through the coils influenced a magnetic needle. To protect the measuring system against the Earth's magnetic field, armor in the form of a soft iron sphere and two half circle magnets were placed above the coils.
